The original Rock n’ Roll diva, Diana Ross, is coming to Western Canada. Diana is a singer songwriter, and actress who is arguably still the most successful female artist of the rock era. Her repertoire includes R & B, soul, pop, disco, and jazz which helps to explain her longevity. She originally gained fame as a member of the Supremes in the 60’s but left for an extremely successful solo career in 1970. In 1976 Billboard Magazine named her the female entertainer of the century. The iconic female singer has had a career spanning over 40 years and is a consummate artist and performer. The Guinness Book of Records jointly awarded her with its Lifetime Achievement Award and the title of 'most successful female vocalist of all time’ in 1993. Her citation noted, "there are no direct contenders for Miss Ross's award.” More recently the elegant star received Kennedy Centre honours.
Recently there has been renewed interest in Miss Ross and her career with the success of Dreamgirls which is the story of a Supremes-like trio and was a smash hit both on Broadway and in film. She appeared last season on American Idol as a mentor to the contestants and she also started an American and European tour in 2007 which has generated positive reviews. She is truly a gifted and talented original and one should not miss an opportunity to see Miss Diane Ernestine Earle Ross as she was named at birth.
