The Jubilee maintains the sparkle

The Jubilee Auditorium continues its 50^th season celebrations with a look at the building itself. The black and white photos are from the 1957 season — those parked cars in the lobby seem so out of place for today’s audiences! Looking at these photos, it is clear that while there have been many improvements to the building and the Main Hall, the history of this structure has been respected and retained.

For those who remember the red upholstery and the carpet in the main hall, the recent renovations have given the Auditorium quite a different look — but without colour in the 1957 photo, there are still so many similarities. The original wood paneling was refinished to create the current auditorium walls.

New art show “Textures” unveiled

This month a new artist is showing in our Kaasa Lobby, lower level. Anne Marie Resta is an Edmonton photographer — for those who regularly attend the Edmonton Folk Music Festival her name might be familiar — she photographs the festival every year.

This show is called Textures and it features photos from nature which reflect all of the textures around us. Each piece is beautiful in its own right, but taken all together this show is a wonderful and up-close examination of the natural world.

In her own words, “Using photography to look closely at nature and amplify the details, the exhibit will explore the textures, the lines and, most importantly, the light that comprise natural subjects. Taken to an extreme, this approach creates abstracts out of common elements of nature that can often be taken for granted. My intention is for this abstraction to lead to a better understanding of the subject as a whole and enable a renewed appreciation of the familiar.”
