New Rotating Art Exhibit Opens
Glimpse In is a crossover debut — a respected commercial artist's first fine art exhibit. In it, Darren deVries, known professionally as TallGuy, explores the tension between what we see and the deeper meaning of a moment and how that tension shapes absolutely everything.
In twenty photos and an electric guitar, TallGuy takes us behind the scenes on his journey through Mainland China. It's not just beauty and pathos, color and swirl, structure and noise; there's truth there as well — a glimpse.
The photos show us moments on this journey, and the guitar, in TallGuy's own words "is the ripest artistic fruit of that trip. The sculpted guitar is a reinterpretation of a classic American icon — a mix of shapes drawn from history, with a heavy nod to Chinese mythology. There is a notion that once we move through an experience, once it moves us; the power of a glance takes root."
This show will hang in the Kaasa Lobby through March 2008.

Construction on the new parking structure continues. In January the site was excavated, the gradebeams and the pilecaps were formed and poured, and the columns were formed and poured. This marks steady progress on the structure's foundation which will continue into February.

Three new facts:
- An average column contains approximately 1.25 cubic metres of concrete and weighs just over 3000 kg or 3.3 tonnes.
- Most of the piles supporting the structure are at least 15.5 metres deep.
- There are 116 piles supporting the structure.

UN Messenger of Peace and founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE began her landmark study of chimpanzees in Tanzania in June 1960. Her work at the Gombe Stream Chimpanzee Reserve became the foundation of future primatological research and redefined the relationship between humans and animals. Dr. Goodall travels an average of 300 days each year speaking about the threats facing chimpanzees and other environmental concerns, and about her reasons for hope that humankind will solve the problems facing our planet.
In February 2004 Dr. Goodall was awarded England's highest honour, Dame of the British Empire, in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Kids' CBC, in partnership with Invest in Kids, proudly presents the 2008 GET SET FOR LIFE TOUR in Edmonton on Thursday, March 13. As part of a yearly cross-Canada tour, Kids' CBC hosts Sid and Patty are joined by kid-favourites Curious George, from the much loved TV and book series, and Bo from CBC's hot new preschool show Bo on the GO!, a show that gets young children active.
Another favourite from recent tours returns this year, as Invest in Kids' Comfort, Play & Teach Centre™ gives families even more opportunity to enjoy the day together.
Before the show, parents and children are invited to visit the Comfort, Play & Teach Centre™ in the theatre's lobby, where they can enjoy four interactive play areas — Sculpture Centre, Reading Centre, Imaginative Play Centre and Creative Centre. This year, the Reading Centre features a 'big book' based on the popular Pinky Dinky Doo series of books by Jim Jinkins and the TV series on Kids' CBC. At the Centre, families can use and take home Invest in Kids' materials based on Comfort, Play & Teach: A Positive Approach to Parenting™.
