A Tradition Reinvents Itself
This year, the Alberta Ballet says a bittersweet goodbye - this is the final year that Mikko Nissinen's The Nutcracker will be performed. In December of 2008 they will unveil a new production of this beloved holiday tradition - complete with new sets, costumes and staging.
Make sure you buy tickets now to see, one last time, Roger Lavoie's sets - the magic growing Christmas tree, the beautiful castle of the Snow Queen and King - and Paul Daigle's costumes. And, as always, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra performs Tchaikovsky's score beautifully. This production, in its 8th year, is a favourite Jubilee tradition. It is one evening when the whole family can believe in Sugar Plum Fairies and witness toys coming to life.
TICKETS available at all Ticketmaster Outlets Take Your SeatsThe Jubilee Auditorium has launched a new community access program. Take Your Seats is an opportunity for students in under-resourced communities to attend a live performance. Four times each year we provide tickets for students and teachers or parents to attend a show. Before each show, our Community Engagement Coordinator spends time with the group, introducing them to theatre etiquette and what to expect during a production.
Already this year we have hosted the Mother Earth and Me Aboriginal Head Start program to see Thomas LIVE! and we invited Eastglen High School students to see Movin' Out. This is a terrific program - the students have a great time, and it is a fabulous introduction to the arts. If you have a group of students who could benefit from this opportunity, please call (780) 427-5057.
Over the next year, we will be keeping you posted on the activities around the construction of our new parking structure. As we have shared in previous newsletters, a parking structure is being built to accommodate stalls that will be lost in the next year to the construction of the Edmonton Clinic North.
In October, fencing was placed around the construction site and the laydown area. By the end of November, the site stripping is 100% completed as well as the pile survey. Already 20 piles are completed. Did you know the piles supporting the new Car Parkade average shaft widths of 3 ft wide with 9 ft wide bells at the bottom by 55 - 62 ft in length / depth? In early December we expect to see the tower crane on site!
