Got Tickets?

|
Tickets for a terrific show are worth the effort — anyone who has attended a live performance of his or her favourite artist can attest to that. Tickets for shows at the Jubilee Auditorium are sold through Ticketmaster Canada Inc.
Ticketmaster is a terrific roommate — we share our lobby with a well-run Ticketmaster outlet. The box office here is open 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. We enjoy the company of this company.
Ticketmaster prints, sells and distributes tickets for many shows. Patrons often call us wondering what the “best” way to get tickets is. Our answer is that there are three ways to purchase tickets through Ticketmaster:
- By phone at (780) 451-8000
- Online at www.ticketmaster.ca
- In person at any of the Ticketmaster outlets
We often suggest that the in-person approach gives you, the customer, the most satisfaction — you interact with the Ticketmaster staff and have more flexibility to pick your seats from what is available for the show. By purchasing this way, you do not pay Ticketmaster’s phone and online charges. If a personal visit is impossible for you, and you need to speak to an agent, call (780) 451-8000. Once the automated message begins, press the star (*) button on your phone’s keypad. You will be forwarded to a Ticketmaster representative directly. The box office in our lobby is not open for phone sales, but the box office attendant will happily answer general show-related questions.
Being a well-informed consumer is always recommended — knowing the facility and the performer’s style will help you make a great choice about seating. Jubilee staff will be reluctant to recommend seats to you — I might prefer front row seating all of the time, but most people would not. In order to avoid influencing a very personal choice, we will instead direct you to our website at www.jubileeauditorium.com/northern where you will find a detailed seating map and views of the stage from various points in the Main Hall.
Enjoy the show — but before you do that, enjoy buying your tickets!

Our Opening Season |
September marks the opening of our 50th season for the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. Our resident companies have already announced their programs for the year, and if you visit Broadway Across Canada you will be delighted see which musicals are crossing through town. More about this year’s season next month — promise. Today we will look at our very first season, which was 1957-1958.
There have been many changes since 1957, as you can well imagine. Rental rates in 1957 were $450 for the entire theatre or $300 for the main floor only for what today we call “commercial” clients. Non-profit clients who would not charge admission were billed $250 for the whole auditorium or $150 for the Main Floor. By June of 1958 these rates were already being increased by $50 across the board.
The coffee bar regulations back then included approval for the sale of cigarettes and matches. Bottled drinks, chewing gum and popcorn were not allowed, and there were no facilities to sell cold drinks. Alcohol was not allowed in the building, at all. Cold drink equipment was installed before the beginning of the 1958–1959 season.

That first year, the auditorium saw car shows (both Chevrolet and Ford), University convocation, several movies (regular 35 mm film!) which could not be shown at local movie houses, a barbershop quartet and performances of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Local drama groups held festivals, an Opera Association performed Hiawatha, and several local choral groups held concerts.
In other words, something that hasn’t changed much is the variety of shows offered to the Edmonton public.
We are still posting new stories to our website. If you remember attending any of these early shows, we would love to hear that memory. Check out www.jubileeauditorium.com/northern/anniversary_view.asp to submit.

Alberta’s Unsung Heroines, Angie Hall —Isabella Orzelski-Konikowski and Bogdan Koral-Konikowski, artists
The Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium is pleased to announce a call for submissions: if you are an artist interested in showing your work in the Jubilee Auditorium, please complete a submission according to the guidelines.
The Rotating Art Exhibit is hung in the Kaasa Lobby (lower level) of the auditorium, and is available for viewing pre-show, intermission, during functions and community programs. The audience potential is great. Interested artists should be prepared to participate in an “artist-in-residence” program as well — at a minimum, giving one community engagement presentation per three-month installation.
The Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium has an extensive collection of world renowned Alberta artists, and we are pleased to provide this opportunity for emerging artists as well.
Martini Bar Service

|
When you visit us, always visit our concessions too. We often try new products and want your feedback on them.
In particular, look for us to have martini specials to go along with particular shows — think “Italian Restaurant-tini” during Movin’ Out. Our House Manager runs contests among the staff to see who comes up with the best names and the best recipes. Stay on top of our calendar. It is possible that in the future we will ask YOU to name a martini.
We can’t promise that they will always be clever, but they will always be fun! Be sure to visit Martini Bar when you come for your next show.

“The recording cycle does not feel complete until we have the opportunity to share the music with a live audience, just as one might share a favourite meal with friends,” McKennitt said. “It has been a long time since we have performed in a number of these Canadian cities, and I’m very pleased that we now have a window of opportunity to do so.”
Her acclaimed 8-piece band — she informally calls them the Idling Porsches — are an international group, including players from Canada, the United States and Britain.
