Moscow Ballet Presents GREAT RUSSIAN SWAN LAKE

Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium
November 26 & 27, 2007 at 8:00 pm

Moscow Ballet will Premiere its critically acclaimed The Great Russian Swan Lake during its 2007 Great Russian Nutcracker Holiday Tour. This year will mark the company's 14th consecutive touring in the U.S.

Moscow Ballet's Swan Lake was created by director/choreographer Anatoli Emelianov especially for U.S. audiences. While honoring the great classical tradition of Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa, Emelianov brings audiences a lively, energetic, emotionally complete production. Moscow Ballet's soloists, laureates of International Ballet Competitions, have been praised for their "fine classical style," and strong dramatic techniques.
Emelianov has gained international recognition and praise for his progressive style. As Mikhail Lavrosky of the Bolshoi Theatre said in 2002, "Emelianov is indeed talented with his modern vision of art and his contemporary way of thinking. His ballet is built on a classical basis but at the same time it is free of dogma and is non- traditional."

The romantic and tragic beauty of Swan Lake has captivated audiences since its debut in 1877. Critics and dance historians have often referred to Swan Lake as the greatest ballet of all times. "Swan Lake stands at the highest point of the curve which represents the history of the source of all ballet as we know it today," Dance News wrote on the ballet's 75th anniversary.
