A giant fan-shaped wall sculpture now transforms the east stairwell of the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. Tony Bloom's artwork, Fanfare, was unveiled in April of 2011.
The Alberta Jubilee Auditoria Society (AJAS) in partnership with the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) is pleased to celebrate the unveiling of this new work by Tony Bloom, of Canmore. This artwork is the result of a $100,000 commission awarded to the artist through this partnership.
A second $100,000 commission was awarded to Edmonton artist Liz Ingram for the artwork, Confluence Through the Looking Glass. This artwork was unveiled earlier this month at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium's south stairwell where it is now on long term display.
Tony Bloom's metal wall sculpture, made of copper, bronze, silver, and stainless steel, is now part of the AFA collection, and will reside at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. Fanfare is a celebration of the creative impulse. It is a major wall sculpture that builds up interwoven layers of disparate structural and textural metal elements into a complete, coherent composition. Fanfare orchestrates material presence with developed notation, tabulation and imagery into an original "score". It is imbued with layers of memory of all the productions and performances, across all disciplines, created for the stage.
